Foods to lower blood sugar which are also good for the heart


Avoid sugary drinks, first of all.


Drink water, milk, black coffee, green or black tea.


FOR PROTEIN:

Wild-caught Salmon

Other fish: Cod, mackerel, trout, sardines

Shellfish: shrimp, lobster,

Beans

Peanut butter

Lean meat (turkey, chicken,beef,lamb)

Eggs (limited to 2-3 a day, a good choice for protein and low in calories)

Pasture raised eggs have more nutrients


Sauerkraut

Apple cider vinegar (diluted and best drank 20 min. before biggest meal of the day)


VEGETABLES:

Avocado

Sweet potato

Broccoli

Cauliflower

Arugula

Spinach

Brussel sprouts

Tomato

Bell peppers

Mushrooms

Carrots


FRUITS:

Whole fruit, never canned

Citrus

Apples

Berries

Peaches

Grapes

Pears


DAIRY:

Yogurt

Aged Italian Parmesan (not American Parmesan)

Milk


OTHER:

Whole wheat, rye, pumpernickel

(No white bread or bagels)

Brown rice

Oatmeal

Flax, Chia, hemp, pumpkin seeds

Nuts (all although some people have alergies particularly to Brazil nuts)


Pasta is OK but should be very limited, always use whole wheat flour
