I did not invent this recipe. There are quite a few examples out there and I’ve tried 3 or 4 before settling on this one, with some changes. Why not make it as close as possible?
Starbucks uses their base syrup. You cannot buy it from them, but similar (copycat) syrups are sold on Amazon. Here is how to make it yourself for use in multiple Frappucinos (below).
Frappucino Base Syrup
Ingredients
1 tsp Xantham gum powder (for example Bob’s Red Mill makes this)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup plus 3 Tbsp white granulated sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Directions
Put the sugar and water in a saucepan and heat on high while stirring occasionally for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to low and simmer while continuing to stir until sugar dissolves.
Turn off heat and let cool to room temperature.
Put the room temperature syrup, Xantham gum powder, and vanilla extract in a blender and blend for 30 seconds.
Pour into a mason jar or other airtight container and refrigerate.
Next make the Iced Frappucino as follows
Ingredients
1 1/2 tsp Starbucks VIA Italian Roast instant coffee
1/2 cup whole milk
1 cup ice
3 Tbsp Frappucino base syrup
Directions
Blend the instant coffee, milk, and Frappucino base syrup on medium speed.
Add the ice and blend on Smoothie setting until very smooth.
Pour into a tall glass and add whipped cream, if desired.
